This week, readers of our new book left nice reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. And not just, “book was great,” but thoughtful and insightful reflections and reactions.
I learned something from these reviews. Namely, that we weren’t just writing interesting human stories, but also revealing a different culture and way of life to our North American friends. I suppose that we have gradually been exposed to some different cultures over the years as we’ve traveled and have become used to the differences. But not everyone has had the opportunity to travel, and many of those who travel have only experienced other countries through their resorts or organized tours. One gets an entirely different perspective by pursuing long-term friendships with people of different cultures.
If you are curious about other cultures, travel is the best way to discover them. For those who can’t afford to travel, consider hosting travelers, and finally, of course, reading is another way to vicariously experience another way of life. Why not start with our book, Friends in Nicaragua?
